Where do you find yourself in the process of understanding and engaging with racial equity, social justice, and environmental justice?
I haven't thought much about racial equity or social and environmental justice, but I'm open to learning.
I have begun this journey to awareness.
I am well along my way in this journey of awareness and action.
I have lived in racially diverse communities and have significant experience as a BIPOC person or ally.
A central tenet of the community is to work for racial equity and for social and environmental justice. We acknowledge racism in ourselves and in our society, and seek to overcome its harmful legacy in our relationships, our country, and on the land. These values invite a commitment to learn and grow, to care deeply for all our members, and—especially for those who are white and benefit from white privilege—to develop a fundamental understanding of how pervasive systemic racism is and how it affects each of us.
If you like, please tell us more and how you have developed racial equity skills.
Living in harmony requires skills like listening, clarity, compassion, and adaptability. Please share any relevant experience.
As we intend to live and work in a compact community village, and our vision includes living in justice and harmony with each other, it will be important for us to have interpersonal skills such as active listening, clarity in one's own needs, compassion, and adaptability. Please share any training or experiences that you have had in community living or skills that demonstrate these qualities. Some examples of training might include non-violent communication, peer counseling, active listening, JEDI (justice, equity, diversity, inclusion) training, leadership, facilitation, mediation, conflict resolution, sociocracy. Please share what comes to mind with regard to these skills.
In a community, honoring diverse traditions can contribute to inclusivity and help create a more harmonious, supportive environment for all members. Are there any cultural or wisdom traditions you would like us to know about?

I only eat whole food, nothing refined.

To what extent are you concerned about EMS (electromagnetic sensitivities)? Please select one or two.
I am sensitive to EMS.
I don't seem to be sensitive to EMS.
I am concerned for others who have EMS.
I don't really know much about EMS, but I’m open to learning.
Are there any adjustments or accommodations at Common Ground Ecovillage that would help you participate more fully?
We welcome companion animals (pets and farm animals) with respect, but due to potential environmental impacts, some limits may be necessary. Please choose one or two statements that best reflect your views:
I’m willing to limit the types and number of pets allowed to roam freely.
I am willing to limit the general areas in which pets can be allowed to run free.
I would rather pets always be confined to fenced areas or a leash.
I expect all community dogs and cats to be neutered or spayed.
I am willing to discuss limiting the overall pet population within our community.
I don’t own a pet and don’t think others should either.
I am willing to work with others to develop the pet policy for the community as a whole.
Can you share an assessment of your financial situation?
We are currently developing our plan and estimate that lots will cost around $125,000. Lots can be shared and may include both a primary home and an accessory dwelling unit (ADU), as well as an attached suite or studio. Home costs will vary widely depending on the size and whether the home is self-built, group-built, or professionally constructed.
To help us with planning, please let us know which of the following is most accurate for you. (Please click one or two of these options.)
I’m interested in farmworker housing with small living quarters near the farm and shared kitchen, showers, etc.
I’m interested in studio spaces, either within a shared common house or attached to another home.
I’m interested in shared homes with private rooms but shared kitchen, dining, and living areas.
I am interested in a one bedroom home.
I am interested in a two bedroom home.
We will have numerous adults and/or children in our home, and will need a three bedroom home.
I’m interested in a tiny home, which will need a foundation and septic system. We're exploring if this is a possibility.
I am interested in renting.
I'm not currently interested in living at Common Ground.
Please share a bit about your journey and what brings you to our community at this time. Feel free to include anything else you'd like others at Common Ground Ecovillage to know about you.

Common Ground welcomes all new members to help in the work of creating an ecovillage! In fact, one expectation of being a member is participating in the work of the community. Observing and then participating in one of our functional circles (our committees are called Circles, which tells you something about how we think about working together!) is a great way to get to know us. The following are descriptions of our Circles:
Planning and Development Circle
- Guide the process of designing, engineering, developing and financing construction of our physical spaces, including architectural design, integrated land management, financing the project, building, and with sustainable and low-impact principles and intentions. This Circle welcomes members with experience in these domains.
Land Stewardship Circle
- Maintain and restore the health of the land by supporting and further developing farm-related activities; supporting health of the forest; maintaining trails, mowing, and gardening; beginning ecological surveys; coordinating with neighbors. There is a lot to do on the land, and all are welcome.
Membership Circle
- Create a welcoming, informed, connected, and well-functioning community; nourish our vision of social and racial justice and harmony with each other. We welcome new ideas and energy in our Circle.
Governance & Communication Circle
- 1. Provide training for our governance (sociocracy) and collaborative culture, support practice and guidance at all levels of community governance. 2. Provide policy framework, coordination, and guidance for internal and external communications and integrate systems and processes of marketing and promotion, process documentation, information technology, and member databases. The Information Technology (IT) Task Group focuses on administration of listservs, our office portal, and other technology solutions such as our Community Forum. The Marketing and Promotion Task Group focuses on marketing and recruitment activities and includes multiple additional task groups that handle outreach, content creation, social media, our google calendar, and other marketing efforts. The Website Task Group focuses on all things related to our website including keeping it up to date and new design elements. CommC and it's task groups welcome new members.
