Where do you find yourself in the process of understanding and engaging with racial equity, social justice, and environmental justice?
A central tenet of the community is to work for racial equity and for social and environmental justice. We acknowledge racism in ourselves and in our society, and seek to overcome its harmful legacy in our relationships, our country, and on the land. These values invite a commitment to learn and grow, to care deeply for all our members, and—especially for those who are white and benefit from white privilege—to develop a fundamental understanding of how pervasive systemic racism is and how it affects each of us.
As we intend to live and work in a compact community village, and our vision includes living in justice and harmony with each other, it will be important for us to have interpersonal skills such as active listening, clarity in one's own needs, compassion, and adaptability. Please share any training or experiences that you have had in community living or skills that demonstrate these qualities. Some examples of training might include non-violent communication, peer counseling, active listening, JEDI (justice, equity, diversity, inclusion) training, leadership, facilitation, mediation, conflict resolution, sociocracy. Please share what comes to mind with regard to these skills.

We are currently developing our plan and estimate that lots will cost around $125,000. Lots can be shared and may include both a primary home and an accessory dwelling unit (ADU), as well as an attached suite or studio. Home costs will vary widely depending on the size and whether the home is self-built, group-built, or professionally constructed.

Common Ground welcomes all new members to help in the work of creating an ecovillage! In fact, one expectation of being a member is participating in the work of the community. Observing and then participating in one of our functional circles (our committees are called Circles, which tells you something about how we think about working together!) is a great way to get to know us. The following are descriptions of our Circles:

Planning and Development Circle - Guide the process of designing, engineering, developing and financing construction of our physical spaces, including architectural design, integrated land management, financing the project, building, and with sustainable and low-impact principles and intentions. This Circle welcomes members with experience in these domains.

Land Stewardship Circle - Maintain and restore the health of the land by supporting and further developing farm-related activities; supporting health of the forest; maintaining trails, mowing, and gardening; beginning ecological surveys; coordinating with neighbors. There is a lot to do on the land, and all are welcome.

Membership Circle - Create a welcoming, informed, connected, and well-functioning community; nourish our vision of social and racial justice and harmony with each other. We welcome new ideas and energy in our Circle.

Governance & Communication Circle - 1. Provide training for our governance (sociocracy) and collaborative culture, support practice and guidance at all levels of community governance.  2.  Provide policy framework, coordination, and guidance for internal and external communications and integrate systems and processes of marketing and promotion, process documentation, information technology, and member databases. The Information Technology (IT) Task Group focuses on administration of listservs, our office portal, and other technology solutions such as our Community Forum. The Marketing and Promotion Task Group focuses on marketing and recruitment activities and includes multiple additional task groups that handle outreach, content creation, social media, our google calendar, and other marketing efforts. The Website Task Group focuses on all things related to our website including keeping it up to date and new design elements. CommC and it's task groups welcome new members.
